Congratulations To The 2009 Ruby Cup Champions - Team Palmetto

The 2009 Ruby Cup Final Results - Captain Prichard Leads Team Palmetto To A Threepeat
The 2009 Ruby Cup Competition was played on Saturday, October 31st, and Sunday, November 1st.   This was the Fourth Annual Battle between Team Magnolia and Team Palmetto.  Team Magnolia, captained yearly by Tom Mason won the inaugural event, but Team Palmetto, captained by Steven Hartwig, won The Ruby Cup the last two years.  2009 featured a new Captain for Team Palmetto.  Robbie Prichard took over as Captain of Team Palmetto this year, and he was on a mission to retain “The Cup” for Team Palmetto.

Tom and Robbie drafted the players from the 2009 Ruby Cup Points list.  Teams were set based on handicaps to try and keep the competition close.  On Friday, October 30th, the pairings were revealed to the contestants for Saturday’s Team Matches and Sunday’s Singles Matches.  The two teams enjoyed a few spirits and appetizers, and the trash talking began as the pairings were announced.

As the tee times began to roll in from the team matches on Saturday, Team Magnolia held an early lead.  Led by Dennis Catoe and Jeff Capogrossi, who won all three points in their match, Team Magnolia was looking strong early.  However, in a stunning turn of events, Team Palmetto took 8 of 9 points in the last three matches.  Jack Davenport and Dave Mottershead won 2.5 points, Suzann Bartley and Lauralee Hansen won 2.5 points and Cheryl Munn and Ellen Smith captured all 3 of the points in their match.  This late charge propelled Team Palmetto to a lead of 22.5 points to 16.5 points after Day 1.

Team Magnolia tried to regroup for Sunday’s Singles Matches, but Team Palmetto proved to be just too strong.  The momentum from the late charge on Saturday carried over into Sunday as Team Palmetto proceeded to win the singles matches by a score of 44.0 to 34.0.  Luke Lekovish, Jim Post, David Voyles, Ned Timmerman, Freddy Powers, Al Davis, and Suzann Bartley all won 3 points in their matches for Team Palmetto.  John Souther, Steve Pachol, Floyd Hedlund, Daniel Voyles, Dave Mottershead, and Lauralee Hansen all won 2.5 points in their matches for Team Palmetto.

Even after a pre-singles match beating, Daniel Voyles was still able to win 2.5 points in his match on Sunday

Team Palmetto held onto The Ruby Cup as Captain, Robbie Prichard led them to a “threepeat.”  The Final Score of The 2009 Ruby Cup was Team Palmetto, 66.5 and Team Magnolia, 50.5.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in The 2009 Ruby Cup Competition, and thank the food and beverage staff for the wonderful cocktail party on Friday Evening and the great lunch that followed play on Sunday.
